Day Has Its Light, and Light Has Its Day!

Well, those of us here, not in DC, watched the Beck's "Restoring Honor..." celebration on the Front Porch today. Thanks C-Span. Thanks Glenn Beck, thanks to all who made it happen, especially the folks who took the risk, and went to the expense of time and money to SHOW UP!! Personally, I was glued to my Couch Potato position for the full three hours...not even getting up to pee.

These folks were not funded by 'special interest' groups and were not 'paid' to show up. They spent their treasures of weekend and money out of their own pocket. They went there for all of us. We OWE them big time. They deserve to be in the prayers of those who pray, they deserve to be in the rhetoric of the rhetorical, and they deserve to be in the thoughts of the thinkers.

There were several highpoints of genius in the presentation. For anyone who saw it, they know it was apolitical. The subject really was about restoring the nation's honor: clearly defining the meaning of honor, frankly discussing when Americans have been honorable or not so much, explaining why honor is the cornerstone of civilization and, dare I say it, "the American Way." Finally, the meeting supplied a specific path for each of us as individuals to get our country back on track.

Admirably, the pathway was not at all about what other folks need to do, or who we can elect to 'do it' for us. There is no electing. There is only doing. The people who SHOWED UP demonstrated their willingness to shoulder their own self-responsibility.

I bet there are literally tens of thousands of stories regarding various hardships endured to be among those who SHOWED UP. I know of several, one in particular.

There is a person who attended this event and would not have missed, obviously for the world. Now that 61 year old person has innumerable back-at-home interests and responsibilities for family and business, plus this person added one further detail several weeks ago. She was diagnosed with a 'non-curable' form of leukemia and, minus horrendous treatment procedures, presumably has 2 years to live. Maybe.

I don't want or need to get maudlin about what must be going on inside for this person. The bottom line is, she SHOWED UP. Cheerfully, willingly, givingly. Any reasons I may have: fear of heat and humidity, intense dislike of travel and crowds, whatever, for not SHOWING UP pale by comparison.

Folks this is a day of optimism. Heroes are turning up at the right time by the hundreds of thousands.

And don't worry about our sick hero. She'll underago the gut-wrenching treatments, buying her many more years of life---enough time to find a cure. She will persevere. Will you? Will I?

The key, as I said in yesterday's article below, is that we UNITE and ASSOCIATE with positive, wholesome, benevolent and proactive people. People who SHOW UP.
