Brian Ragland: I agree that I was born into a law abiding family with an ethic of hard work, an appreciation of education and a desire for all of its members to grow to be successful, productive members of society. Families that do not hold these standards are the problem and the financial drag on our society. If you expect to be accepted by society and be successful you must prepare yourself and apply yourself. Failure to do that is no one's fault but your own given our society today. If you fail to do that, it is not my responsibility to provide for your livelihood, healthcare, food, housing or anything else.
Jack Greene: Hear, hear Brian!! To quote Rand, "One man's misfortune is not a blank check on the lives of others."
Can't help adding that the family component to successful living is incredibly important. Which leads to the observation that, paticularl...y since the inception of the 'War on Poverty', goverment programs have been dismantling families, encouraging absentee parentage, subsidizing fatherless children, and spreading the addiction to State dependency.
This tactic of encouraging victimization mentality, reduction of self-reliance, goes back centuries. As Hayek said, we're on 'The Road to Serfdom.'
I don't want to hear that we are all useless idiots, endlessly repeating 'mistakes.' This path we're on is no mistake. Brings me to my favorite Fleming quote(again):
When Goldfinger captures Bond, he says, "Mr. Bond, they have a saying in Chicago: 'Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action.'... Oddjob. The Pressure Room."

LBJ's so called War On Poverty damaged this country. People living on disability, getting welfare checks, living in section 8 housing, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie by the dead beats, moochers! I am trying to better educate myself on all these temporary programs that have became permanent. I am one of those nutcases who thinks that Medicare, SSI, disability, welfare housing, state paid senior housing, "free" day care centers, all of the above should just be done away with. Then the sky will fall and people will have to actually work for a living or if they are retired, hopefully they had enough sense to plan for their future not looking to us to pay their way. My generation that is paying into the broken system of medicare and disability will never see any of the money(thank god or the easter bunny) when we retire or if any of us happen to become disabled (define disabled!). And...I am glad that we won't see any of it. Sorry, for the rant. My two cents [that don't belong to me anyway, they belong to the IRS]. I apologize for not having a polished vocabulary. I will leave that to the professional writers and to the wise men and women I admire and am willing to learn from every single day. Thank you!!! J.M.
