Do "Times Make the Man" or Vice Versa?
Welcome to the Front Porch! Remember the ol' chicken/egg discussions we used to have in simpler years, regarding whether "The Times Make the Man" or does "The Man Makes the Times"? Well who cares!! We just know that today we need real-time heroes. And we're blessed to have them!! By the thousands...some high profile, some who quietly go unnoticed. Today I thought I'd mention just a few that come to my mind, and invite you to add your favorites by commenting actively at the end!
REAL-TIME Heroes:
RUSH LIMBAUGH. He's top of mind today for me because of his incisive observation on the brazen hypocrisy of politicians and media regarding the building of the Mosque in NYC. When the Muslim President cites 'property rights' and 'founding fathers,' you know what's to follow is pure BS. Limbaugh cut right to the quick by postulating what political lefties and media sycophants would be saying if someone were trying to build a Walmart at that location. There's a lot more to Rush than what he said today and how he came to be who he is, as well as the obstacles he overcame along the way...
GLENN BECK. What a fortunate combination of insight, drive to learn, talent for marketing and communicating a message! As I've said elsewhere, I'm as arrogant as anyone about what I think I know. Beck has taught me more about history in the past year than I learned in the previous 40. Moreover, he's doing this by choice, at extreme risk to his personal safety and well-being, when he is now in a position, as is Rush, to safely disappear into the sunset...and speaking of obstacles along the way, both these guys are self-taught and are encountering major health impairments. Leaders by example.
SARAH PALIN. You certainly can tell a person's effectiveness by the vitriol of their critics. It's sad that her exemplary lifestyle, commitment to family and country seem so out of sync with today's norm. We're very lucky...VERY lucky. She could also walk off into the sunset and not have to endure the abuse of the ugly class...
Thank you, Sarah.
AMERICAN SERVICEPEOPLE (And I'm not referring to way overpaid 'public servants' --- who should be studied in biology classes as the top of the parasite food chain) As a group, there is none finer, none braver, particularly when they're serving an ungrateful government and culture. No wonder military suicides are through the roof. I'd think twice about stepping across the street to defend this bunch of Corruptocrats, never mind puttting my life and family's dreams on the line. If anyone deserves your prayers, it's these folks...
TEA PARTIERS, 9/12ers, and anyone who is proactively giving their time and energy to this struggle we're in for the civilized world. They deserve whatever forms of support we can give them. While sheeples and useful idiots watch American Idol(including me), these people are manning the barricades. I feel so fortunate to have met some these heroes. Not only do they give their time, energy and financial resources, all can tell you stories about strained family and social relationships. People are uncomfortable when we change our behaviors. Especially if there's an ounce of guilt inside them.
I HAVE MANY HEROIC FRIENDS I've been fortunate enough to have come to know over the years. I want to to mention one by name who has recently been going through a rough time of one sort or another (not to slight the rest, all of whom have their crosses to bear).
BRENDA DREYER. Brenda has been a beacon of libertarian acitivism in numerous roles: writing, speaking, organizing, supporting Our Cause. She's literally a wheel behind the wheels. Personally, she has helped me to meet many wonderful like-minded folks, particularly on Facebook. She has played a key role behind the scenes in the 'success' to date of the Front Porch. For those of you who know her, I'm preaching to the choir. For those of you who don't---avail yourself! Again for those of you who know her, Brenda has recently hit a rough patch in her health picture. I'm confident this too shall pass. Meantime support her however works for you!! We can't afford to have her on the DL!!
TIP OF THE HAT to all you other heroes and heroines out there. The genius of Tea Parties and such is learning we were not all alone. That the strenght we get from that will take us through each of our rough patches...
Now what real-time heroes do you want to acknowledge? (Pssst, if you haven't yet, read HyperEduFlation by scrolling to the next article....)

Humm I wonder if you went to college, because your idea of a hero, based on your "hero" examples is weak.
ReplyDeleteGlenn Beck, (I imagine if he were king for a day, within one hour, the country would be on fire).
Sarah Palin, Im sure she has intelligence however, I have met 8 year olds whom I would rather see run the country than her.

ReplyDeleteTop notch, Jack, as usual!
ReplyDeleteAgreeing concerning all the heroes mentioned.
Knowing Brenda "doc" some, I could not agree more. She's in my thoughts and prayers. It's an honor to know her.
Ditto, Bea Jay!
ReplyDeleteAnn Coulter! J.M.
ReplyDeleteJack I am more than flattered, you have struck me speechless...and...that never happens!!
ReplyDeleteI really don't deserve this..I know many people that do much more than I do. Each one of us does whatever small thing we can do to advance our cause.
I thank you so much...even though you have embarrassed me thoroughly!
Sir, count yourself as a hero. I came back to re-read this after reading your daily blog and I thought to myself, what the heck, go ahead and let JG know that he is a hero to many people out here in cyberspace.
