Your Chance to Get a FREE copy of Lysander Spooner's Classic NO TREASON!!
Welcome to the Front Porch, where common sense and good times prevail!
If you scroll down to the November 12 Front Porch announcement, you'll see how you can win free copies of 2 contemporary libertarian classics: Dr. Mary Ruwart's HEALING OUR WORLD and Glenn Beck's sensational ARGUING WITH IDIOTS (hardbound).
As we said at the introduction of the contest, the purpose was to get us reflecting on the past tumultuous 2 years, among friends who are mutually supportive and are purpose-driven (meaning we want to restore liberty here before it's too late!)
Well, part of the contest has been quite successful. Lots of enthused, offline endorsements. But part has been, shall we say, slow off the mark.
That's the actual participation part. I'm hoping to hand you your Round Tuit today with this added bonus!
We need that first person to break the ice. Talk to us. Tell us YOUR story. The first bonafide, seemingly sincere story we receive will earn it's writer his/her very own copy of NO TREASON. Let's get this show on the road!!
Tell your story in the comment section below---and remember, if you do it under a pseudonym or anonymously, it's gonna be dang hard to send you your prize. And just think, if your article does not serve it's purpose of breaking the ice, you'll also win the other two books by default!!

Pre- "W" and certainly pre-Obama, I regarded myself as engaged, educated, and participating more than the average Joe. My oldest is a "Rush Baby". I listened to talk radio rather than music because it fed my mind and quieted the other voices of daily stress and anxiety. Actual participation, beyond being an informed voter, would have defined me as someone I could not relate to... social climbing, manipulative, ego frantic, and superficial.
ReplyDeleteThen, I was surprised by Clinton's election. Following, I was surprised by many non-conservative decisions under "W" and flabbergasted by the outrageous spending. When Obama actually won the presidency, I went into a depression. The enormity of the problems we and our children faced made any effort seem futile.
Glenn Beck's "We Surround Them - 9-12" effort gave me the hope I needed to stand against the forces we fight today. No one in my sizable city, Fort Worth, had gone to Meetup to plan a watching party as he had suggested. Out of exasperation, I organized the first 9-12 Meetup in our area. We had 60 something guests, mostly strangers, come to our home to view the show and consider what we might be able to do.
On one hand, it was so reassuring to find like-minded and perfectly lovable people who had the same concerns and sense of urgency. On the other hand, persisting through several layers of comfort zones and battling through opposing strategies and agendas was taxing to say the least. We have grown and accomplished much more than I imagined at the start.
A paradigm shift has occurred for many Americans. These are the people that I am compelled to associate with... those who understand that by working together our voice can be heard and our side of the debate can triumph. We do surround them when we rally others and stand together. This lesson was the most surprising: I do indeed need my fellow man and it is imperative that we make alliances.
One last surprise has been how much I like and love the people I have met as a result of this crisis. I now have more faith in my fellow man and more hope for the future. And, I have more respect for our nominally educated, blue collar commonsense neighbors. They are proud, hardworking people who must not be undervalued.
